Karein’s research and teaching experiences encompass 20th century literary and cultural trends in the United States, Germany and France. She is particularly interested in Modernist literature, representations of the Holocaust and War, depictions of cities and urban life, German film, multiculturalism in literature, Berlin and the teaching of the German language.
