Sexual Health Forum

The Sexual Health Forum aims to give accurate, comprehensive, and sensible information about sex to members of the RC community, the UM community, and the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti community at large who may not have ready access to such information or know where to find it. We are a very multi-purpose group, correcting common misconceptions about sex, answering questions others might be uncomfortable with, and knowing how to point people in the right direction when they need more information.

Last semester, we had a bake sale in conjunction with UM Students for Choice's Sextival and released a pamphlet containing some lesser-known sexual health information and resources. More recently, we had an independent bake sale in honor of the 35th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision to celebrate reproductive choice and we will be going out to parties in costumes to hand out free condoms in attempt to encourage students to practice safe sex. We are also planning a film series about sex in the media for later this semester. We plan to shift our focus from college students to adolescents in the community next semester, working with Ozone House in Ypsilanti to develop a sex education curriculum that we can use with their kids.

Our last big thing was a sexual variety show which was extremely successful, a St. Patrick's Day sexy bake sale, and screening of the Rocky horror picture show. There will be another variety show this april and we are welcoming all acts -- poetry, song, dance, strip tease, drag show etc.

Students, faculty, and community members who are interested in learning about safe sexual practices and creating a more open dialogue about sex in the community should contact Jackie Cremer at jcremer@umich.edu. Our meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7:30 in Room 28 Tyler.
