Semester in Detroit Update: Curriculum, 10/31 Application Deadline
Semester in Detroit Curriculum
The curriculum for Semester in Detroit is now clearly in focus. A very descriptive two-page document that lays out everything you need to know about the curriculum plan for SID is available as a PDF download. I hope you will give this a close look, especially if you are still on the fence about whether or not to apply. You will be learning so much from an excellent array of professors and community leaders. And many of your credits will count towards your distribution requirements -- not to mention how SID will help you get a minor in Urban Community Studies relatively quickly. Check it out.
September 30th – Learning from the Community Workshop, Entering and Exiting the Community
If you plan to participate in SID next semester (even if your application has not yet been submitted), you need to sign-up for next Tuesday’s Learning from the Community Workshop. This is a prerequisite for the program. The workshop is from 6:30-8:00pm and is held at 4448 East Hall. Sign up online right now on this page.
Semester in Detroit Application Deadline – October 31st at Midnight
Please remember that the deadline for submitting your application to Semester in Detroit is next Tuesday. It is ok to submit your application in advance of the recommendation letters – these can be sent separately AFTER the deadline. But please make sure to (at the very least) email me (regester@umich.edu) your SID application (attached above) by the midnight deadline. In order to insure the best possible match between your internship interests and our community organizations’ agenda, we need to have your application submitted by next Tuesday. Applications are available online: http://www.rc.lsa.umich.edu/sid/
Detroit Field Trip – Saturday, October 4th
We’ve got about seven people signed up for next Saturday’s field trip to Detroit. In addition to seeing the Wayne State University dorms, having a free lunch, and seeing the UM Detroit Center, we may visit the fabulous jewel called Eastern Market. Way cooler (and much larger) than Ann Arbor’s Farmer’s market. RSVP to regester@umich.edu.
