RC Senior wins Yahoo! developer competition
Brandon "Quazie" Kwaselow, an RC senior set to graduate in May 2009, won Yahoo!'s Hack U competition at UM in March. This annual competition lets top computer science students mix, mingle and code with some of Yahoo!'s experts. Competitors submit an application they have developed and Yahoo! judges choose the winner.
Quazie's winning hack is an app for the iPhone that displays a Yahoo! map of the user's current location which includes points of interest such as schools and parks, but can also include user-generated content such as restaurants, shops, libraries - whatever the user selects. Quazie already had experience working with virtual maps on PCs which is why the more challenging territory of the iPhone platform appealed to him.
