Shakespeare in the Arb

A Community Production

The process is unique also because it is offered both as an extracurricular program and as a class which students can take for credit. It is also a community event, bringing together local actors and musicians.

Auditions for the 2009 production were held in the courtyard of East Quadrangle, home to the Residential College, which is located off Willard between Church and East University Avenue on Central Campus (map). Actors were asked to read scenes from the play and to explore staging them in the outdoor setting. No monologue necessary. Class credit is available for UM students.

The auditions took place April 17th-19th 2009 - Friday afternoon from 4-6 pm, Saturday afternoon from 2-4 pm and callback auditions on Sunday from 2-4 pm. Please email Director Kate Mendeloff, mendelof@umich.edu, for further information.

Please note that anyone is able to audition, whether you are a University of Michigan student or not. We are also looking for musicians, choreographers and costume designers and crew. Please email the director with inquiries about working on the production staff this summer. There is compensation for some of these jobs. People interested in ushering should contact Volunteer Coordinator, Tara Griffith, tgriffit@umich.edu.

Rehearsals began the week of May 3rd and are from 12-4 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons at the Reader Center in Nichols Arboretum on Washington Heights Avenue.
